Discussion on combating climate change held in Jashore

Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a discussion titled “Steps to Combat the Harmful Effects of Climate Change” in Keshabpur upazila of Jashore on Sunday.

The event took place at the Keshabpur Press Club auditorium.

Discussion on combating climate change held in JashoreThe session was presided over by Prabir Sarkar, vice president of the Keshabpur chapter of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.

Key speakers included Advocate Abdul Majid, an adviser to the organisation; General Secretary Asim Ghosh; and Abdullah-Al-Fuad, general secretary of the Keshabpur Press Club.

Other notable attendees included Joint Secretary Taifur Rahman, Literature and Cultural Affairs Secretary Ajit Mukherjee, Sports Secretary Shawkat Hossain, Women’s Affairs Secretary Hasina Khatun, Education and Reading Circle Secretary Hadiuzzaman, and Nurul Islam Khan, a representative of Kaler Kantho.

The discussion emphasised the urgent need to prevent Keshabpur from falling victim to the harsh impacts of global climate change.

Speakers highlighted a range of solutions, including tree plantation, adopting eco-friendly lifestyles, conserving fuel and electricity, reducing plastic use, and raising awareness about water conservation and sustainable management.

Participants also discussed how the waterlogged conditions are damaging local flora and aquatic ecosystems, including farmlands, ponds, and wetlands. They emphasised that environmental awareness must be heightened at all levels of society.

The speakers concluded with a collective call to action: for real change to happen, every individual must contribute.
