The Rajbari unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho has brought a smile to the face of bright but underprivileged student Laboni Akter by covering her admission expenses for honours studies.
Laboni, who had lost hope of pursuing higher education due to financial hardship, received support through Shuvosangho with the assistance of local social worker Md Abdus Salam Mia. The organisation arranged the funds to pay her university admission fees.
Shuvosangho handed over the assistance at an event held on Saturday at the office of the Kaler Kantho Rajbari correspondent. Laboni and her mother, Ruma Begum, broke into tears of joy as they expressed gratitude.
Ruma Begum said, “I went to many people seeking help for my daughter’s admission, but nobody came forward. What Shuvosangho has done, I will never forget.”
Ashraf Hossain Khan, associate prof of Rajbari Government College and president of the district unit, presided over the event. Social worker Md Abdus Salam Mia attended as the chief guest.
Advisers and members of Shuvosangho, including Iqbal Hossain, head teacher of Yasin High School, Selina Khatun, former head teacher of Kachimuddin Bidyapith, Rezaul Karim, head teacher of Sher-e-Bangla Girls’ High School, Rafiqul Islam, lecturer of Ankur School and College, and journalist Jahangir Hossain, also joined the event.
Md Abdus Salam Mia said, “Such initiatives by Shuvosangho are truly commendable. They will prevent bright students from dropping out and encourage them to pursue higher education. I want to see this initiative expanded further.”
The humanitarian effort by Bashundhara Shuvosangho in Rajbari has drawn widespread local appreciation.
