Jagannath Uni passes Tk297cr budget

Jagannath University on Monday, in a special syndicate meeting, passed its primary budget of Tk297.82 crore for the fiscal year 2025–2026. Out of this, Tk8 crore was allocated for research, which was double compared to last year.
The information was confirmed by university treasurer Prof Dr Sabina Sharmin, who presented the budget before the university's 102nd syndicate meeting.
According to the budget, Tk8.3 crore is allocated for research, Tk25 lakh for primary healthcare, Tk58.21 crore for various grants, Tk4.92 crore for equipment, Tk3 crore for transportation, Tk1.70 crore for ICT, and Tk80 lakh for other capital expenditures.

Additionally, Tk128.6 crore is allocated for salaries and allowances, Tk84.31 crore for goods and services, Tk56 crore for supplementary scholarships for students, and Tk24.9 crore for the construction of temporary halls.
For the first time, the budget includes allocations for thesis, MPhil, and PhD research for students. An amount of Tk1 crore has been earmarked for master's theses and MPhil–PhD research support.
According to the sources, the University Grants Commission approved Tk187 crore, and the remaining Tk110 crore is a deficit budget. The budget has increased by 48% compared to last year.
