Voters up by 25.75 lakh in six months: EC
Akhtar Ahmed said that the commission will publish another supplementary voter list to include youths who will turn 18 years old by 31 October 2025.
The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday published this year’s second updated voter list, recording an increase of 25,75,230 voters in the six months since the first update in early March.
The list now stands at 12,63,07,504 voters, following a door-to-door campaign ahead of the 13th national election, said EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at a press conference at the EC secretariat in Agargaon, Dhaka.
In the latest update, 47,08,858 new voters were added to the list, while 21,33,628 voters were removed for various reasons.
The country now has 6,41,00,455 male voters, 6,22,05,819 female voters, and 1,230 third-gender voters, the EC senior secretary revealed.
The Election Commission published the first updated voter list of the year on 2 March, which recorded 12,37,32,274 voters across the country. Of these, 6,33,61,615 were male, 6,03,69,665 female, and 994 transgender persons.
Akhtar Ahmed said that the commission will publish another supplementary voter list to include youths who will turn 18 years old by 31 October 2025.
“It will be our final roll for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election,” he added.
He further said that the commission is preparing a proposal to assist physically challenged and visually impaired voters in exercising their voting rights by improving accessibility to polling stations.
“We are consulting with stakeholders, including development partners such as UNDP. Some proposals are still under review,” he said, indicating that volunteers would help physically challenged voters cast their votes.
The EC secretary noted that this update of the electoral rolls is a crucial step in the commission’s preparations for the national election, tentatively scheduled for February 2026.
